New Initiatives in Building Energy Efficiency 2021

  • The “Aiming for Sustainable Habitat: New Initiatives in Building Energy Efficiency 2021”, initiative is launched by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
  • It aims to enhance energy efficiency in the economy, especially in the buildings sector.
  • The building sector is the second-largest consumer of electricity after industry and it is expected to become the largest energy-consuming sector by 2030.
  • The launched initiatives include:
    • Code compliance approaches
    • Learning tool
    • Online Star Rating
    • Training Engineers and Government officials on Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) 2017 and Eco Niwas Samhita (ENS) 2021)

Eco-Niwas Samhita (Energy Conservation – New Indian Way for Affordable & Sustainable homes)

  • The Eco Niwas Samhita is developed by the Ministry of Power, New & Renewable Energy.
  • It was developed to set minimum building envelope performance standards to limit heat gains and to limit heat loss to ensure adequate natural ventilation and daylighting.

Energy Conservation Building Code (Code), 2017

  • The purpose of the Energy Conservation Building Code (Code) is to provide minimum requirements for the energy-efficient design and construction of buildings.

Mandsaur Inscription of Kumaragupta It was written by  Vatsabhatta   during the period of   Kumaragupta (5th century). The starting of the inscription praises the sun god and asks for his blessings. Sadiya Serpent Pillar (Assam)

Sadiya Serpent pillar, is an ancient octagonal stone pillar that was erected in the region of historical Sadiya in Assam . The stone pillar contains one of the earliest Ahom inscription founded to date inscribed in it, dated to 1532. The inscription dates to the reign of Suhungmung Dihingia Raja (1497–1539 ). Ahoms who captured Sadiya in 1532 and entered into a treaty with the local Mishmi tribe , the terms of the treaty were inscribed on an eleven feet high stone pillar, constructed in a design of a huge serpent encircling it from bottom to top. The epigraph consisting 9 and a half lines on the pillar is a proclamation issued by Phrasenmung Borgohain (Ahom governor of Sadiya) asking the Mishimis to pay annual tribute in certain articles and to dwell on one side of the Dibang River.
